All Things Sport...

Re: All Things Sport...

Hi @MDT I thought we should move this conversation out of a world stuck in sadness and suicidal ideation to here! I support Spurs, Brisbane Roar (A league) and Canberra United (W league), all for historical reasons! How about you? And where do you stand on the Messi v Ronaldo issue? I'm team Messi. I really need happy distractions right now. Roll on World Cup! @soul is also a football fan. Do you two know others in forum land? Hope your day's ok.

Re: All Things Sport...

Hey @frog
Yeah bring on the world cup. What did you think of the squad the new Australian manager picked? I reckon its about the same as what was there but with a few new faces. His style and tactics will be good to watch I reckon. I think he will be good.
I support Swansea City in the BPL because my great grandfather was from there. He came to Australia between ww1 and ww2 on a boat and started a life here in Australia. I love my Welsh heritage so it's great to have a team to support like that. They nearly got relegated but they got a better manager too and are 13th on the table. Made it to the quarter finals of the FA cup too. Swansea!!!!
Not sure who else here follows it. @soul does? Cool.

Re: All Things Sport...

@MDT Spurs are playing Swansea in the FA cup quarter final! As to Socceroos, I’m glad there’s a few new faces. They need some young blood. On the other hand it would be nuts to leave Cahill out. We wouldn’t have made it without him. Did you hear Graham Arnold is tipped to be the post WC manager? Dk about that.

Re: All Things Sport...

Hi again @MiaK Do you play foorball? And/or follow any teams? @MDT and @soul are interested. I'm hoping some more fans come out of the woodwork for the world cup!

Re: All Things Sport...

Thanks for making this thread @Zoe7 and for tagging me in it @frog.

I am a huge football (round ball) fan and enjoy watching tennis as well.

I will set my alarm and catch the English and World Cup matches even if they are played in the middle of the night.

I don't like the new manager for the Socceroos. I have seen Graham Arnold in action when he was at the helm of the Central Coast Mariners and he displayed appalling behaviour - throwing tantrums and whingeing when he didn't like a ref's decision or what the other team was doing.

I suppose if they were wanting an Aussie to take the helm, there wasn't much talent to choose from.

The Socceroos will have a difficult time progressing through the stages and may bow out very early I am afraid. Nothing like that magic 2006 tournament in Germany. I have beautiful memories of watching those games and the 2010 ones with my son (luckily it was school holiday time)

My English team of preference is Manchester United but they certainly don't have the spark of old. This Saturday night's match against arch rivals Liverpool will bound to be an interesting one with both teams desperately wanting that second place on the ladder.

I used to watch the Brisbane Roar play but their side has lost its lustre too.

So you're a Swansea fan @MDT. Solid mid table team.Nice that you have roots there. I am gutted that The Netherlands are not competing in the World Cup. That's my heritage.

Re: All Things Sport...

Hey @frog, for including me on this thread! I too love watching the Socceroos get through their qualifiers in the World Cup! Cahill will be sadly missed from the A league. I’m a Man U fan & also barrack for the Brisbane roar...bit an also loving the Newcastle Jets come back this year!
I recently hung up my boots as my poor knees decided enough was enough! To be honest I really miss my team mates & the feeling of that nervous energy you get when you are preparing to step out onto the pitch before a game. I wasn’t a great player by any stretch but I really enjoyed playing the game. I definitely don’t miss having to wake up & play in freezing cold, windy, rainy conditions though!! Haha
What position did you play?

Re: All Things Sport...

@soul and it just so happens that Liverpool is my team - so one of us will be crying on Sunday lol

Re: All Things Sport...

At least you'll never walk alone @Zoe7

Re: All Things Sport...

LOL that is the call of the day @soul - very impressive - and the best team song EVER!!!

Re: All Things Sport...

I know - it's a bit more moving than "Glory, glory Man United ...." @Zoe7
