I think of other questions before seeing the new Dr

Whats up @oceangirl

Re: Checking In

Hello @oceangirl

Seeing a new medical or psych adviser often has feelings of apprehension mixed with positive anticipation, attached to the event. Apprehension about meeting a new person and how they will respond to us. And positive anticipation about the good that will hopefully come from the meeting.

I think that it is normal to feel somewhat unsettled when seeing someone new. These mixed feelings can sometimes add to the feelings of tiredness that may also have been, as you have said, apparent since the middle of last year. In fact, the tiredness probably underlies, to some extent, the reason for seeing the psych in any case.

I tend to try to relax as much as possible before an appointment with a person new to me. Not only is that person new to me, but I am also new to them. So, I think, that it is useful to be prepared to go over some 'previous territory', even though this person may have my notes. They really need more than just our raw details on paper. Rather, to hear our story from our perspective, with all the facial and body expressions that project who we are and the situation, as we see it, in the present.

You haven't mentioned the reason for seeing a new psych (I presume psychologist). Would that be relevant with regard to how you might approach your appointment?

I hope that these ideas may be useful to you and help with your preparation for the appointment. And, if you have any other ideas you would like to discuss, or questions about how your situation and appointment may be approached, I would be pleased to talk with you about them. You can be assured that any suggestions or assistance, that may be offered, are always presented with pleasure.

With Best Wishes

@oceangirl
I'm okay. Had a bad arvo though. Not good in fact. But at least some world events have kept me distracted for my placement work.

Re: Checking In

@HenryX

Thank you for responding to my post. Great advice and tips. I try to relax too before meeting someone new or attending medical appointments. However its not always possible. I am worried the appointment time is at 9am and I tend to function better in the afternoon.

Yes one of my biggest symptoms is fatigue, I think we have talked about it previously. My appointment is with psychiatrist. I'm going to start pulling together my history prior to seeing him. I am feeling a bit more relaxed about the appointment and seeing someone new. I tend to stay with someone because its familiar and loyalty. I am not progressing with my current specialist and a new perspective might be helpful. I am seeing specialist for depression and anxiety. Although its just anxiety and depression it does have quite an impact on my life and quality of life. I want to make changes in my life and I don't want to do it alone.

I am hoping I can talk about what concerns me about the upcoming appointment. I do find it hard to open up. Because of fear of judgement and that ties in with my anxiety. My concern is about my privacy and consent and that is really important to me. In the past my psychiatrist has never spoken to my GP. And I have never filled out paperwork. I am not sure how to go about this and I might ask the admin about the paperwork and ask if I can talk to the Dr about it. I think I will write down my concerns about this and will talk through it with the specialist. I am just worried how he will respond. What do you think?
