My Hospital Stay

Re: My Hospital Stay

Couldn't sleep. Brain full to overflowing.
Have called Workcover and begged them to let me go back to hospital & for a stay determined by my psychiatrist and the nursing staff & not by someone in workcover trying to save money and who doesn't have experience of MI & SI. They said they need an email / letter from my psychiatrist. He's writing one now and calling them. His wife called the clinic and they have a bed ready for me. Pending workcover approval.
Waiting to hear from my psychologist, who is calling me back so he can also send workcover an email.
He wanted me to go to the local ED & Psych ward - public. I refused. I worked for them as their Admin girl. I won't let them 'treat' me. This department and health network caused this MI by not following the law, their policies and procedures and just decent morals. Hell no.
It's private clinic far away from thos hospital or nothing.

Re: My Hospital Stay

My old Workcover took over my case again from my new case manager. He approved an initial 14 day stay. And can be extended if my psychiatrist recommends it.
Hospital has a bed ready for me at the same clinic as 10 or so days ago.

So I packed my bag, rang the hospital to check they got the approval letter. yes. But because it's a 2 & 1/2 plus hour drive (with my mum driving) - I can't get there in time tonight before admissions close. So mum will pick me up around 7.30 am & take me to hospital.
It is a huge relief. I feel safer in hospital at the moment.
But I had to beg them to approve it. The new case manager is out of her depth when it comes to MI. Like a lot of Workcover staff. Thank God my old manager took over.
I'll be safe tonight. I'll call Lifeline if I need to. First time calling them today. The lady was great. Kept me on the phone until my psychiatrist was due to call. Was just what I needed.
Still haven't slept - even with the extra prn meds at lunch time. Brain in overload. But am relieved I'm going back to hospital tomorrow.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia how are you feeling now? Any news? When will you hear? i hope you get to go because you deserve the right care. You know yourself and you know the care you need. Of course you can't go and stay in the public ward you worked at! Surely your psych knows that?? Keeping you in my thoughts x

Re: My Hospital Stay

That's great news @utopia I'm really glad that you've got this stuff sorted out for tomorrow. You did really well to advocate for yourself too, so that's something you can be really proud of (once your dpression actually allows you to feel proud - just keep it on the list to remind yourself for later, if that's not possible at the moment).

Re: My Hospital Stay

Sent at the same time @Former-Member. My psycholigistrrecommended the public hospital until I got Workcover approval. Because at this level of SI & being unwell - he couldn't help keep me safe. So I understand why he said it. It's just hard in rural areas.
