The great yoga adventure

Re: The great yoga adventure

Another packed class at yoga this afternoon. Maybe they had a promotion going but there seems to be a lot more people attending. Good for their business I suppose but I prefer less crowded sessions.

We had a Yin class AND we did a Bridge Pose so I have bridged today! Some people did a supported one with a block or bolster underneath them. With the Yin Poses, we are supposed to hold them for 3 mins or so.

Hope you all grabbed one of the Child's Pose garments. There were even some for men @Ant7 @TheVorticon@Determined and any other guys who are yogis.

I think they are displayed on a previous page so you'll have to go back to find them.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have been a bridge today, have you? Smiley Happy

@Zoe7 and @soul I superly duperly love my new yoga wardrobe. I definitely am an awkward turtle @soul. Smiley Very Happy

Here's an awkward moment for you; tonight in our yoga class, we were doing King Pigeon and the teacher told us to lift our back leg and touch our foot with our hand. She said that some people can touch their foot with their elbow but that was way beyond her ability. Um...yeah...I was right next to her with my entire arm wrapped around my foot. Smiley LOL I'm sure I feel as self-conscious about my quirky flexibility, as others probably do about not being very physically flexible.

Here's something cool though; my teacher told me tonight that I am hyper-flexible. Once again I am struck by the hilarity of the fact that a bazillion mental health professionals (plus quite a few other people over the years) have told me I'm too rigid...and now it turns out that all that time, I'm really hyper-flexible. Smiley LOL It reminds me of this quote:

Next time someone tells me I am too rigid, I'm definitely going to stand on my head and tell them "Really? My yoga teacher said I'm hyper-flexible." Smiley LOL

@frog and @Former-Member I am so excited that you have joined our yoga group, and I am SUPER excited that you are heading off to two real classes this week @Former-Member. I love the picture of those yoga pants that you posted. I'm not so sure about the shoes the person is wearing though. They look like the sort of shoes that @Former-Member would wear for yoga-ing. Smiley LOL I totally understand the nerves - you just have to read the beginning of this thread to see how superly duperly anxious I was. However, I now feel a bazillion times more comfortable in the class so it was definitely worth the anxiety.

@CheerBear I am glad you are planning to join the strangest yoga class in the world a bit more while your regular class is on break. I hope you got to be the bridge you were aiming for today - it looks super tranquil.

@Adge I have no idea what you look like...and yet I can picture you having fun waggling your legs in the air while doing shoulder pose. It sounds like that will definitely have to be our pose for next week. Smiley Very Happy

I wonder who else might have been a bridge today?

Happy yoga-ing! Smiley Very Happy

Re: The great yoga adventure

They probably would be the kind of shoes I'd wear @Phoenix_Rising...so luck for me that yoga is a shoe-free zone Smiley LOL

Re: The great yoga adventure

You must be made out of rubber @Phoenix_Rising bybthe sounds of it. That foot grabbing thing is called "cat catching its tail" according to my instructors. I can do that but forget the elbow - no way. I think my flexibility has improved though.

This was me starting yoga classes @Former-Member

Re: The great yoga adventure

@soul Giggle, that picture is so very true!!!! Yeah, I know, I think maybe I am rubber turtle Smiley LOL. It really is very odd. I think I might book a private lesson for next week. I can see that I'm at significant risk of injuring myself because I have the flexibility, but aside from that, I really don't know what the heck I'm doing. I'm messing around with advanced postures and I really think I need some guidance to avoid landing on my head or something. Smiley Very Happy

Re: The great yoga adventure

I'm not sure how many days I did child's pose last week. I did it on Sunday morning I think, but I'd have to go hunt through this thread to find out if I did it 4 or 5 times... Probably only 4, so I likely missed the tshirt target. I'll check later, though probably not before Thurs. And don't think I'll be bridging this week.

Re: The great yoga adventure

I had to do something similar today at Pilates @Phoenix_Rising

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hey @TheVorticon - you're in luck. For your efforts, I have chosen a shirt especially for you anyway.

If you Bridge this week, that's well and good, but if you don't, so be it. Maybe you will find something else that will give you some relaxation whether that be yoga or another activity. I wish you a good week.
