@Phoenix_Rising and sisters and brothers in this Christmas thread. 

What a great community this is. Christmas for me is a time to watch all 6 series of Downton Abbey and eat scrummy food. My partner and I do not celebrate the Christian Holy Day - we are an atheist. In our early days we did Chrismas trees and pressies, and the obligatory "Lunch" with family. Then about 5 years after we got together we started going away for Christmas to a friend's shack by the sea - and that broke any expectation that we would be 'around' on the day. So now we are likely to have sandwiches and mince pies and haighs chocolate and watch a movie, maybe take a nap. 

It is a special time of year because I am on my own so much and my partner gets two weeks off work so it is nice to hang out with each other. I am so fortunate to have a partner given how odd-bod I am, and I am eternally grateful for her presence and love.

I was alone until I was in my early 30's so know the feeling of not being connected, how I ended up with a fab partner still blows me away. Me! I made a good decision.

I hope everyone can find that inner core heart's bunker on the day, whether alone or with fraught family do's. Love yourself.

Wonderful idea for an uplifting Christmas thread! And thank you for acknowledging how lonely and painful it can be for some. I admire you for not letting the latter get you down. Thank you for spreading the cheer. I could not of done it some years back as the grief was still too raw, but now I feel I can too. Appreciating the true meaning is also a time of cheer for me. And looking forward to a better New Year.
