Red hot poker - Torch lily
Red hot poker - Torch lilies
Just discovered this plant has 2 names kind of evens out any implied sexuality of one of the common names.
Lilies seem feminine and maybe we should not talk about the other ...if we are polite ....sorry thats my weird sense of humour.

Hi @Appleblossom and others reading this thread,
I find the associations between names and other references interesting, and also, to some degree, the humour elicited by some of those associations.
It is interesting to consider different perspectives generated at different periods of time. When I was a child, my Grandma had Red Hot Pokers growing in her garden. The association for me was firstly the poker that was used to stoke the open fire in the lounge room and later, the bright red colour of a metal bar having been drawn from a blacksmith's forge. Neither of these two images would have been connected with any interactions between people. Though they may have had some such connotation as sanctions of activities about which one should be very careful.
So, as with many such images, there can be different, though possibly associated aspects of life encapsulated in the same image. The nurturing, sometimes gentle, feminine aspect and the protective, cautionary, even guiding aspects, all wrapped in the same beautiful presentation.
Red Hot Pokers or Torch Lilies!
With considered reflection and a liberal sprinkling of humour.
With Best Wishes
