Bipolar flare up

Hi , during the last week I have had a manic episode. During these episodes I get on line and pretend to be someone I am not , talking to women and living in a fantasy world . I do take medication for my bipolar disorder but I am wondering where to go to get the counseling I need . I do not want to loose my marriage but my poor wife is struggling to deal with these episodes. They normally happen after a low period.

HI @Lakelands27

It sounds like its really tough for you and your wife when these things happen, and its really good you can reflect on that strain.

Going to your GP is often a great way to start in seeking counselling support.

Its great to reach out to the SANE community to seek support, stay connected

Thank you , yes it’s really tough on her and it’s hard to explain what’s going on in my head .

Re: Bipolar flare up

@Lakelands27 I've just finished watching Homeland on Netflix and the main character has BPD.  Watching it gave some insight into the disorder as well as being able to watch a fairly good show.  Could watching something that has a character with BPD in it with your wife help her to understand it more?

I see a kinesiologist (an alternative one who uses it with other healing modalities) who's helped a lot with my PTSD from war service.  It could be worth seeing if that's something that could help stabilise your moods?

Can you get counselling through your doctor?  They're able to get you 6 free visits.  Could putting website blocks on your online go to's help so that you're not able to access them?

I hope that you find something that helps you and your relationship with your wife
