Sometimes that self-awareness doesn't or can't translate into action @Faith-and-Hope - be patient with him (I know you are 
) - he is making many positive steps forward and it will all come together for him in time 
It is lovely that he wants/needs you around to help him focus - that is a beautiful bond you have with him Hon - and one that seems to be precious to him also
