I can definitely understand how approaching or engaging in any form of therapy, may cause feelings of needing to be careful or cautious. I feel it too, and I think that for me it is because it requires a great deal of trust to open up to someone and hope you're better off for it. Trust for me doesn't just happen, it has to be earned (and it can easily be broken).

From my understanding, which is not vast but I am learning, DBT is a form of CBT with the aim being to provide and learn/practice skills that may enhance a person's life. I would be wary of any one thing that suggested it could solve depression or any mental health condition too.

You raised a point that I hadn't considered before, and that is the potential effect of the confusion that may happen when presenting ideas such as the dialectics and paradoxes to different people. I don't have much to say other than I did find it felt unsettling and confusing to explore notions such as this, and I can see how this might be really problematic for some.

I've been thinking about your thoughts about personality not being able to change and respect that everyone may have different views on this. I'm not sure where I sit with this idea today. Perhaps I believe that aspects of our "selves" are static but others can change. I will always be me, but the me I am is a constantly growing and evolving person, through things like environment, circumstances, learning, experiences, age etc. Really interesting to think about though. I fully believe, as it seems you mentioned, that there is a place for all people/personalities.

The other point you touched on which I really appreciate, was about being aware of anything that leads to fatigue or confusion. It made me think of a section in the emotion regulation module that highlights the role of biology in regulating emotions, and the importance of addressing any factors (including nutrition, sleep, illness etc) that may contribute to us being vulnerable to our emotions. I think it's definitely important and relevant as there are so many elements that can play into overall health and wellbeing.
