Re: Riding a wave

I'm glad that TTT seems to totally be on the right page for helping you @Phoenix_Rising, even though it really badly sucks that other harmful stuff keeps getting in the way.

Also shhhh but...

Content/trigger warning
I can't seem to find the tutorial I used to start learning crochet but you probably wouldn't want the tutorial that led to my "keep stitching and stitching and stitching until it gets big enough to see what you're doing and hope that it actually worked!!!!" method anyway Smiley Wink

Re: Riding a wave

@CheerBear Ooooh thank you! I actually snuck into Spotlight and had a look around...but couldn't figure what would be best to buy. Now I know! I will try to get back there tomorrow. This is exciting!

TTT really is amazingly cool isn't she. I really think that if I can just get a sense of safety, then other things might start falling into place a bit. Of course, last week's adventure set the whole thing back about a trillion miles because it so massively reignited the sense of not being safe given that the objective reality is that I don't matter. Sigh...

Re: Riding a wave

@TheVorticon giggle. Did you continue on with your crocheting adventure? I want to make a baby dragon. How long will it take me to learn how to make a baby dragon @CheerBear?

By the way @TheVorticon, did you hear that CheerBear and I are plotting planning a public transport adventure fun day? We need to wait a couple of weeks until the LF are back at school. Do you think you would like to join us? We should start the thread soon CheerBear so that we can post lots of how-to videos before the big day! Smiley Very Happy

Re: Riding a wave

I really understand how that sense of safety needs to happen (and also how quickly everything can be set back). Ugh.

Spotlight is one of my favourite places probably ever @Phoenix_Rising ☺ I am having a Spotlight trip either tomorrow or Wednesday because I can't not have a project to work on. This is exciting!

I remember how incredibly cool I thought it was to hear about your crafting @TheVorticon 😎

As far as making a dragon goes @Phoenix_Rising, it took me a couple of months (on and off at the time) to get from knotted mess, wonky square-ish shape, lots of circles (which is called "in the round" crochet) to following an amigurumi style YouTube tutorial. Amigurumi (which is the little pocket sized mini toy things) is mostly done "in the round" so in a circle that grows. Beanies are made in a similar way and my big blankets are made in the round. Most blankets and flat pieces are made in a row, like with knitting. I think it's worth starting with a row kind of thing first until you can get the feel of a hook, an understanding of the structure of a stitch (I'm guessing you'll get this part waaaaaay quicker than I did haha), you can count stitches (again, guessing you may have less trouble with this than me), and they're similar-ish sized.

I'm so looking forward to this fun day adventure and can't wait to see who else may join us!

Re: Riding a wave

@Phoenix_Rising I did, actually. Once I repeatedly managed to fluke/correctly get it started, I figured out what I was doing right and made a few things. Smiley Happy I can't actually share any of them on here though, cause they're sort of identifiable (one was a tribute/gift, one is on my desk at work, one I posted on facebook without further explanation)... And then I have a few bits and pieces of unfinished things. I was doing it regularly for maybe about a year and then just stopped when life got in the way and haven't touched it since. So I have a big bag of balls of wool and stuffing that had plans attached to them and now just take up space in the cupboard.

Just quietly though, you guys are making me a bit jealous and I may have to bring them back out to start up again. My main problem was that I kept breaking the hooks. Smiley LOL I must've been too rough or held them too tightly, but they kept breaking. I'm not sure if I've still got a usable hook at the moment.

The baby dragons look cool 🙂

Oh yes I did see the public transport adventure day plans with you and @CheerBear. Thanks for the reminder 🙂 In my home-city I've got trains, buses and ferries too (listed in order of preference from best to worst). Ferries are very slowwwww here and I don't get them very often. I'd be happy to join in with the adventure fun day.

Re: Riding a wave

⬆️ is all kinds of exciting 😁

Re: Riding a wave

@CheerBear and @TheVorticon, I am superly duperly excited about our public transport adventure AND my crocheting adventure. I will definitely try to get to Spotlight tomorrow, CheerBear.

Good night @CheerBear @TheVorticon @Catcakes and @Former-Member (who my inside just told me to tag). By the way, Catcakes and bookish, do you want to join the upcoming public transport adventure? It's going to be amazing, I can just tell! Smiley Very Happy

Good night @Former-Member and @Former-Member. I think I saw you both out on the ocean tonight. Did you read about my session with TTT? We are going to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together. How superly duperly cool is that!!!

Re: Riding a wave

Morning @Phoenix_Rising and anyone in the ocean at the moment.

Is it the eve of TTT eve again Phoenix_Rising? I really like the two appointments a week thing.

Last night I looked through your baby dragon link and spent ages trying to find the pattern. Turns out I needed to scroll down a little (face-palm). When I found it I noticed there are two different baby dragons in that link, one written pattern (the yellow and pink ones) and one video one. Because it's so cute I wanted to have a go so I started this one today https://youtu.be/6DINRv8Y5aQ in pink and purple. While I am doing it I'm thinking about what stitches you may benefit from knowing before you have a go too and so far it isn't too many which is exciting 🙂

Aside from that, the other reason I am calling past is to say that, after I drop off some photos of my blanket, I won't be around much (maybe at all) today. We've got stuff on during the day and into the night which is probably good because the anxiety bus is driving around and wanting to strike so I think busy is good today. I am trying to work out some dates and times and I can't make sense of it. I am thinking you understand how terribly my head works with this stuff at the best of times, let alone at times of flip out. So annoying.

I hope there's some good in today for you and that you enjoy your trip to Spotlight. I found unicorn yarn at a different craft shop so I may go there instead. Picking up some dragon eyes too 🙂

Will be here even when I am not

Re: Riding a wave

Hi @CheerBear,

It is pretty cool that it is the eve of TTT eve isn't it. I am super liking the 2 sessions a week thing too. I think I'm going to have to commit to it for a little while even though the thought of churning through the funded sessions terrifies me. However, I have a feeling that I won't need 2 sessions a week for very long and it may be kind-of a false economy to ration them out too much.

Anyway, I HAVE to only have one session a week next week and the week after because I have two super big change the world adventures coming up. These are fun I-am-choosing-to-do-this ones so they are cool. One of them involves two sleeps in a hotel. Do you want to know something I find odd @CheerBear? Why is it that organisations go on about how they lack funding to help clients, but then they put people up in ridiculously fancy hotels? I feel like saying to them "dudes, if you used cheaper hotels, you'd have more money with which to help your clients!" {Face palm}.

I am excited to hear that baby dragons aren't super hard to make! I plan to go to spotlight this afternoon.

You mentioned that you found some unicorn yarn somewhere. I'm assuming this is made by spinning the fleece of unicorns, right? Smiley Very Happy

I hope you have a super fun busy day. Being busy definitely helps to keep anxiety buses at bay! I'll see you when I see you, and I know you are definitely always here even when you aren't. Smiley Happy
